INTRODUCTION

In Prevention of Cholera Cholera is a dangerous disease that can cause death if not treated right away. It is caused by a germ called Vibrio cholerae, and is spread most often through contaminated food or water. Shanchol Oral Vaccine works by causing the body to produce its own protection (antibodies) against the bacteria. This vaccine is generally recommended for individuals who are traveling to areas where cholera infection is common. However, while traveling, it is important that you avoid contaminated food or water. This vaccine is taken by mouth and you should avoid eating, drinking, and taking any other medicines by mouth for an hour before and after taking the vaccine, as this may make it less effective.
